The Church of Brelevenez
The Church of Brelevenez or the Eglise de Brelevenez is an ancient Church in Brittany that overlooks the town of Lannion in the department of Cotes d’Armor on the mid north coast.
To get a closer look, you need to tread the 154 steps that lead up to its majestic frontage. The actual door to the church is to the left of the church almost hidden by the building next door.
On the way up are a row of quaint houses the rise in unison with the steps, which make you wonder about the probable amazing fitness levels of the inhabitants, and where do they keep their cars?
Entering the Eglise de Brelevenez is, like most churches, quite a beautiful experience, and as you look around the church, you discover that there are many facets. For example there is a “crypt” which houses a depiction of the final hours of Jesus Christ surrounded by some of his followers. This is made of carved figures which are near life size. There are photos of this depiction below, together with images of the famous steps, and the interior and exterior of the The Eglise de Brelevenez itself.
